The Swiss football team qualified for the quarterfinals of the European Championship after beating Italy 2:0 in the first game of the round of 16.
To the surprise of everyone at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, the Swiss national team defeated the Italian national team with a score of 2-0 (1-0).
After a cautious start by both teams, Switzerland began to press the rival and create dangerous attacks.
In the 23rd minute, Embolo could have brought his national team into the lead, but Donnarumma was up to the task. A reliable striker broke out alone in front of Italy’s goal, set up for a long time, and sent a shot, but Donnarumma showed his class and intervened to kick the ball into the corner.
Only two minutes later, the Italian national team threatened through Chiesa. He passed two guards and sent a shot from about 12-13 meters, but it was blocked.
In the 37th minute, the Swiss took the lead. The action flowed on the left side; Vargas fought for space and sent a usable cross; and Frøyler found himself in the right place and beat Donnarumma with a left-footed kick.
After only a minute of play in the second half, the Swiss took a 2:0 lead. He accepted the ball from Vargas in the penalty area, “opened” his foot, and hit the crossbar of Donnarumma’s goal.
In the quarterfinals, Switzerland will play the better team from the duel between England and Slovakia, while the current European champion will finish the competition.
