The first match at EURO 2024 that ended without goals
The Netherlands and France drew 0:0 in the second match of Group D at the European Championship in Germany.
Although the match in Leipzig was full of chances for both sides, in the end it ended in the most unpopular result, leaving the battle for the top spot wide open.
Without the injured Kylian Mbappe, the French simply couldn’t score, mostly because of Antoine Griezmann, who missed one big chance in both halves. Twice, the Atletico Madrid forward was employed in front of the rival’s box, and both times he suffered from sloppy finishing, especially in a situation in the 15th minute when he missed the entire ball.
The Netherlands also had opportunities, and in the 69th minute, Xavi Simmons even managed to rattle the rival’s net, but Denzen Dumfries’ offside call canceled this goal.
In the end, the match ended with perhaps the fairest result, which left the two rivals tied for first place in Group D with a point more than Austria, which had earlier defeated Poland 3-1.
